Word for your “Weak’
Did you know? Our motives are Weighed by the Lord!
To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the proper answer of the tongue. All a person's ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the LORD. Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. The LORD works out everything to its proper end-- even the wicked for a day of disaster. The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished. Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD evil is avoided. When the LORD takes pleasure in anyone's way, he causes their enemies to make peace with them. (Prov. 16: 1-7-NIV)
All of us no matter who we are, what our titles may be, how much we pray, fast, and seek the face of our Savior, have motives. Some of us think they are legitimate ones, some are hidden or so we think, and others are quite obvious. However, the truth is God knows.
We often rationalize why we do what we have done, or why we feel we should do it to make it sound good. We try to explain the basis of what we are doing and hope that someone else will justify our plan or join us in it. We want others to go along with us, giving us grounds for the decision we are make.
Well, beloved, God is weighing our motives, he is the one who is evaluating the real reason why we are doing whatever it is and making a sound decision to the validity of it. If we stopped each time we thought of doing something and asked the Father to weigh it, I believe that ofttimes our thoughts and plans would change. We should never do anything out of spite, to harm someone else, to repay them because we feel they deserve it, etc. The above verse says: All a person's ways seem pure to them, (Prov. 16: 2a-NIV). Of course we think what we are doing is genuine and the right thing to do, but have we stopped to inquire of the Holy Spirit about our motives?
As I am writing this devotional, what I am mentioning below happened several years ago, this was the week of George Floyd’s demise, and the riots are heavy in many cities. While I agree it was wrong, and God knows it was, is it right to riot? Or did the people just use that as an excuse to riot? What was the real motive? We must allow justice to take place and God to have his perfect will simply because He says so, remember it is written; Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the LORD. (Rom 12:19-NLT). So, having said that let us reevaluate our motives before we decide to take action. Take time to think through every scenario before moving forward and ask the Holy Spirit to weigh our motives. Until next time, make it a blessed week.
